Libraries have an important role to play to reduce inequality in public access to information. Studies show that public access to information, including through libraries, is particularly important for minority groups and other marginalized population groups. While wealthier or advantaged households may have broadband access to the Internet and other information sources at home, many of the more marginalized households and groups lack reliable and timely access to information that concerns them, including important financial, social and health-related information.
ESCAP participated in the Regional consultation on the ASEAN Guidelines on Disaster Responsive Social Protection, organized by the Asian Development Bank in collaboration with the Food and the Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 30-31 August 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The consultation gathered inputs for the ASEAN Guidelines on Disaster-Responsive Social Protection, including by presenting results of studies relating to risk-informed and shock-responsive social protection in ASEAN Member States.
ESCAP, together with Development Pathways, has developed a new e-learning guide on how to implement inclusive social protection schemes. In a simple and easy-to-understand format, this guide explains the administrative processes, organizational policies and systems required to implement tax-financed social protection.
