At the Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific, ESCAP delivered the keynote address on socioeconomic trends and evolving social protection needs, and brought to the fore the demographic development underway as well as social development successes and challenges based on its recent research. The Forum was organized by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and hosted by the Social Security Organisation (Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial – PERKESO) of Malaysia, 2-4 October 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.
On 13 July 2018, the United Nations Generally Assembly in New York approved the final draft of the Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), culminating a year-long extensive process of regional and thematic global consultations and intergovernmental negotiations mandated by the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants of 2016.
