Regional Consultation on South-South Cooperation in Asia and the Pacific
The United Nations General Assembly resolutions 71/318 and 71/244 mandated the United Nations Secretariat to convene the second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South cooperation on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA+40). The overarching theme is “Role of South-South cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: challenges and opportunities”. The United Nations Secretariat was encouraged to hold regional, sub-regional or sectoral United Nations meetings prior to the Conference in the first half of 2018.
The Regional Consultation Meeting on South-South Cooperation for Asia and the Pacific, jointly organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the Government of Thailand.
The Meeting will provide an informal forum for participants to review the South-South cooperation trends, challenges and opportunities in the region in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It will provide countries with a platform to share their own experiences as providers or beneficiaries of the South-South and triangular cooperation, their institutional arrangements, policies and lessons learned. The Meeting will also look at how to leverage the partnerships with the various stakeholders, including the civil society, think tanks and the private sector. The outcome of this Meeting is in the form of Chairman’s summary, which is non-binding, and it will inform the second High-level Conference.
The Meeting is expected to be attended by the heads of the national agencies/units responsible for South-South cooperation and/or development cooperation as well as resource persons from private sector, think tanks, and civil society organizations.
In conjunction with this Meeting, the Inaugural Round Table of the Asia-Pacific Forum for South-South Cooperation will be held on 29 June 2018, from 09:00-12:00 hours.
An Exhibition entitled “Good practices for South-South cooperation in Asia and the Pacific in the context of the 2030 Agenda” will be also held during this Meeting and member States and the United Nations partners agencies are encouraged to participate in this exhibition.

It is the responsibility of the participant to obtain the necessary visa to enter the Kingdom of Thailand.

- To apply for an appropriate entry visa to Thailand, participants should contact the respective Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate-General for accurate information regarding the visa application procedures and required documents.
- A list of Royal Thai Embassies/Consulate-Generals can be found at www.thaiembassy.org.
- Holders of UN Laissez-Passer (UNLP) travelling on official business to Thailand are REQUIRED to obtain an appropriate visa before entering.
- Participants must possess a passport with the validity of at least six months and must be in possession of a valid return ticket.
- Participants from countries other than those listed previously are requested to check for updated information on visa requirements and / or obtain an appropriate entry visa from the Thai diplomatic or consular missions at the point of origin or en-route prior to entering Thailand.
- Those who can apply for Visa on Arrival, must fill out an application form at the Visa-on-Arrival counter at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK), supply one recent passport-sized photograph and disburse a fee of THB 2,000.
- Participants who need to apply for a visa outside their country of residence or reside in a country where there is no Royal Thai Embassy/Royal Thai Consulate should consult with the meeting organizer about the appropriate location to apply for a Thai visa.

Weather
The weather in Bangkok is usually warm and humid. Therefore, we recommend that light tropical clothing would be appropriate. The UN conference rooms, where the meetings are to be held are air-conditioned and the temperature is maintained in the range of 33-35 degrees Celsius (91.4-95 degrees Fahrenheit).
Electricity
The electricity voltage in Bangkok is 220V, 50Hz. Please note that plug adapters may be necessary. The plug in Thailand has not been standardized and the following types are available.

Tap water in Bangkok is generally not suitable for drinking. It is better to drink bottled water or water provided from the hotel or at the conference centre.

Information for self-sponsored participants
HOTEL ACCOMMODATION
Participants are requested to make their own accommodation arrangements.
The following hotels have been designated as recommended hotels for which the room rates indicated below are inclusive of service charge and value added tax. Participants are requested to contact the hotel directly at least 10 working days in advance and to provide the guest's full name, date and time of check-in and check-out, flight numbers, contact details. The organizers will not be responsible for making hotel arrangements for any participants.
Any subsequent changes in arrival plans should be communicated immediately and directly to your hotel. Cancellation, postponement or any other changes must be notified at least 48 hours in advance. If the participant is unable to check-in to the room as per their scheduled arrival, the room will be held for 24 hours at the participant's expense and will then be released. The organizers will not assume any responsibility with regards to hotel arrangements including any changes concerning the participants.
PAYMENT OF HOTEL ACCOUNTS
Participants are expected to settle directly with the respective hotel on room charges and other expenses, such as local and long-distance telephone calls, internet use, business centre use, laundry, room service, mini-bar items and hotel transportation services, as well as restaurant and bar services.
TRANSPORT TO - FROM AIRPORT
- Participants should make their own transportation arrangements from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to the respective hotels. Airport-limousine (AOT), metered-taxi, Airport Link train services are available at the airport. - Participants may access public metered-taxi at the platform of passenger Terminal on 1st Floor. In addition to toll fees and/or expressway fees, there is a THB 50 surcharge to be added to the meter charge from airport to the city. It should cost approximately THB 400 - 500 to the hotel by public taxi.
- Airport-limousine services are available from the airport and can be arranged in the arrival zone, 2nd floor. (AOT tel.: 66 2 134 2323 to 5). Limousine service rates are according to the distance traveled.
- Airport Link services are available from Suvarnabhumi International Airport to central Bangkok.
TRANSPORT TO - FROM HOTEL AND UNCC
Participants may access public metered-taxi at all times. Please be sure that the driver starts the meter when you are on board (starts at THB 35). It should cost approximately THB 100 – 150 to and from the recommended hotels and UNCC. However, for the field trip undertaken as part of the conference, air-conditioned shuttle bus will be provided by the Government of Thailand. The arranged schedule and meeting point for the shuttle bus to the field trip will be announced at the later date.
