Launch of Knowledge-sharing Platform on Ageing
North-East Asia is experiencing population ageing at the fastest speed in human history, with the countries holding world records for the longest life expectancy and the lowest fertility rates. The current demographic trend requires transformation of policies to be inclusive by leveraging older persons' social, cultural, and economic contributions, as well as expanding social services for them. In this connection, the new online platform by ESCAP-ENEA aims to facilitate strengthening collective knowledge on policies, programmes and innovative initiatives that contribute to creating age friendly societies in the subregion.
Following the Asian Symposium on Building Sustainable Ageing Societies in 2012, held by the ENEA Office and the Chinese Government, the Office commenced collection of best practices and the construction of the knowledge-sharing platform on ageing, which was one of the key recommendations of the Symposium. The website launch was held in Seoul on 27 August 2014 during the Northeast Asian Ageing Research Council Conference.
