2014 Policy Dialogue on Energy for Sustainable Development for Asia and the Pacific
The organization of the Policy Dialogue, as an annual event, is a direct response to ESCAP Resolution 70/9, implementation of the outcome of the first Asian and Pacific Energy Forum (APEF), held in Vladivostok in 2013. Following the first Policy Dialogue, held in December 2013, the 2014 Policy Dialogue has the following objectives:
1. Increase understanding and strengthen linkages between the implementation of the APEF Plan of Action and initiatives of member States, regional organizations and the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) global initiatives;
2. Review the secretariat’s practical efforts towards meeting the mandate provided by member States in key areas including: the APEF Implementation Support Mechanism, the APEF Energy Data & Policy Information Portal, and the Regional Energy Trends Report;
3. Exchange views on policy options to accelerate the implementation of the APEF Plan of Action, particularly in the two areas identified in the 2013 Policy Dialogue: a) Integration of Renewable Energy in Electricity Systems, and b) Application of Clean Coal Technologies in Power Generation;
4. Identify the focus areas for the next annual policy dialogue; and
5. Discuss the establishment of a framework to support member States in the development of policies as solutions to specific energy challenges.
Through various sessions during the three-day programme, the Policy Dialogue provides an opportunity for member States to build on the outcomes of the 2013 Policy Dialogue, as well as the APEF, and to network with interested international development partners. At the Policy Dialogue, it is also expected that member States will provide further guidance to the secretariat in making the APEF Energy Data & Policy Information Portal and the regional trends report even more relevant to facilitate the implementation of the outcomes of the APEF.
